so this is

what Saturday feels like...
wow. my first Saturday since July 30th... the boys and I have been just hanging around in our pajamas; we just finished breakfast (pancakes and bacon), and the computers are humming, and I suppose I should be thinking about a shower and doing the dishes. hey, maybe I could just put the dishes in the shower... save me some time that way. hopefully we'll get around to doing trash and recycling, and maybe a bit of grocery shopping today, but then again, maybe not. feels very good to be lazy.
other than that, life is same old, same old. I led a good Counterpoint rehearsal on Thursday evening, which reminds me I need to email Bob about what we covered. we have several performances coming up, including our holiday concerts in December (not that far away, anymore...). we, as usual, have spread ourselves a bit thin, but we'll be great.
all right, probably a lot more today, but I'll save it for another time. have a great weekend.

it's

here!!!
but first, a more important announcement:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CHELLIS!!!!

Chellis turned 15 today. he has become a really great person, and I so look forward to the future with him. I'll get to see him, and Emerson and Lincoln tonight. I'll pick them up for their soccer game, and then we'll figure out some food, and then, to the apartment to enjoy the other bit of news:
the iMac is here!!! whee!! I will be chomping at the bit all day while it sits here in its box... oy!
time for class. more later...

Voices

in the NYTimes...
a quick link this morning:

Voices

hard to believe it's done... don't know how I would have made it through the last couple of months without it. I'll be posting some pictures sometime this week; I've been taking pics of all of the band setups in all the theatres, watch for them. it's been quite an adventure!
have a great week.

retail

therapy...
well, I did it. I finally ordered my new computer! very exciting! you can read more about it here:

G5 iMac

I should find a little picture of it, but visit the Apple page, and you'll see all about it there. this will be such a giant leap forward from what I've been using. I can't wait! I almost ordered it on Monday night, but the credit card web page went down, and I'm glad! because Apple just released the new upgraded iMacs today, and I'm getting a better machine, for less money! cool! I'll also be shopping for a machine for the boys to use at my apartment, but I'll wait a few days, when I expect the older macs will be selling for much less. I hope to find something quite good for them, too. now to upgrade my cable modem service to the faster level, and I'll be ready to fly!
the boys and I went for pizza after their soccer game tonight. always fun. they lost, but played very well, both of them.
final Voices show (and video shoot) this weekend, and back to church on Sunday, so maybe things will slow down just a bit? one can hope... have a great end of the week.

quick

update...
just a quick update on the New York Choral Society gig in December. it's Friday, December 9th, not the 10th as I said before. not much more info than that, but for all of you that were thinking of going, thought I'd better get you the right date! not sure who you'd see on the 10th...
the boys are here, and we had a great evening, watching the Nightmare Before Christmas, and eating tacos. now watching the third LOTR movie, and soon to bed. tomorrow, soccer in the morning, and then off to Rutland for Voices. this is the last official weekend, though we'll do the show again next Saturday for the filming. hard to believe it's almost done.
ok, have a great weekend.

ooh boy

testing, testing...
today, I learned how long it takes me to get out of the apartment in the morning. about 15 minutes. I woke up, feeling strangely rested, when I glanced at the clock. 6:52. I normally leave the apartment around 7:05... guess I forgot to set the alarm clock(which is set for 5:40am). well, thankfully, I had gotten the coffee ready last night before heading to bed, so that was easy. and I decided that I didn't need to shave today. pretty scruffy, but better than being late. well, I was on the road at 7:07, so I did pretty well. took the coffee to go.
we're in the middle of standardized testing at school, which for some reason we're doing a bit at a time, so as to stretch it out over two and a half weeks. oy. this particular group of tests is a new one, called the NECAP (New England Common Assessment Program, or something like that). it is, in this day and age of No Millionaire, oops, No Child Left Behind, a high-stakes test, meaning failure for a school to meet the (basically unmeetable) standards involves several years of overseeing and other government involvement in making sure that every student meets the standards. in other words, it's the Super Bowl, rather than the World Series. now, I'm all for accountability and all that, but the standards are such that EVERY students must meet them, and there are very few accomodations allowed. nothing like expecting 21st century alchemy. a good way for BushCo to bankrupt public education so Halliburton can take that over, too.
anyway, I've probably said enough to get myself in trouble, and I'll be a good little soldier and do my job. even though I'm being asked to do things that are not in my field of study. oh well, I did okay at the Iowa Basics.
on a completely different note, I finally got one of these:
I do a lot of deep frying of fries and onion rings, and the slotted spoon I was using just didn't really cut it, so when I saw this at Shaw's I had to have it. it works great! strike that one off my Christmas list...
okay, enough for now. another busy weekend ahead, but the end is in sight...
