I'm sure there must be

something to write about...
a couple of things, anyway. nothing major, but some news. I'll be working this summer at the Vermont Summer Jazz Camp, at U-32 HS in East Montpelier. the camp is run by my long-time friend, Tom Cate, and we have talked in the past about adding a vocal jazz ensemble to the camp, and this year he decided to do it. a couple of other great jazz people will also be involved, vocalist Kate Paradise, and pianist Joe Davidian, so it should be great. we haven't worked out any of the details, but we're putting things in motion. this is the 12th or 13th year of the camp, and it's had a strong following. I'm also helping Tom put together a website, you can see it here: www.vsjc.org
should be fun. oh, camp runs July 17-21.
in other news, the house that I live in has been sold, so I don't know what that means for me; hopefully not much at this point. I haven't heard who the new owners are, and whether rent will go up (or down...), etc. I'm hoping to move eventually anyway, once the divorce is final, but that won't be for a few months, so we'll see. I'd like to have more room, especially to be able to give the boys their own space, and hope someday to get a house. that will be further down the line, I expect.
not really much else, I guess. it's vacation week, and that feels great! have a good one.

totally

awesome...
there are some of the coolest old videos I've ever seen:

National Archives

they remind me of the 16mm films we used to see when I was in grade school. I loved those. so far, I've watched one about Apollo 11, and now I'm into a long one on the building of the Boulder Dam. thank goodness it's vacation week, because I think I might spend a lot of time watching these! (dial-uppers beware, most of these are pretty big. sorry.)
the boys are here, heavy into World of Warcraft, and vacation has begun!! have a great week.

edit: a friend tells me (and I can confirm) that right now the link I gave is re-directing to plain old Google. not sure what's going on, other than to wonder if they're getting hit really hard, and have pulled the link. that or maybe GWB found out about it, and wants those movies classified...

edit redux: well, maybe it's good to go, now. good luck!!

almost to

vacation...
well, we have a long vacation starting next week, and that'll be great. the boys will be with me for at least some of that time, so it will be nice to have some relaxing time together. I still have things to do, of course, but they should be fun. I'm leading a HS festival chorus in Rutland on the weekend of the 3rd, and that will be great! I'm really looking forward to that. more about it another time.
it's been a busy week, I guess. I finally hired my attorney (whee...) and took paperwork to him today. I also got Renter's insurance which I should have had but hadn't gotten around to it. I also got my new contacts today. they're soft lenses (or some sort of gas-permeable thing anyway), and they're quite comfortable. I'm hoping to be able to wear them most of the time. the kids at school will just have to get used to me without my glasses. they're pretty funny about that; I wear my contacts for evening concerts, and they always have plenty to say about how I look! ah well, got to love 'em.
I'm leading the Counterpoint rehearsal this week, as Bob is gone to NY. should be fun. we've begun to rehearse Atom Spin, the piece I wrote for the 75th Vermont All-State Chorus in 2002. I'm looking forward to having us sing it.
I had great concerts at school over the last couple of weeks, and the especial great thing about them is that they were recorded. all seven schools in the school district are being recorded for a cd, and we finally arranged to have them come record. the kids sang really well, and I was very pleased. the 7/8 chorus listened to their stuff today, and felt good about it. not perfect, but some very good singing. it'll be tough to decide which song to pick for the cd. and last night was the 5/6 concert, and they were fantastic. a really powerful group of singers. the guy recording said he had to turn down the alto mic at one point! hopefully we'll get the rough mix back on that one before the vacation starts. they need to get started on the mastering, so we'll need to decide pretty quickly what songs to put on. I'll see about getting copies if people would like to hear it.
ok, I'd better head towards bed, tomorrow is another day. have a good rest of the week.

Chellis weekend

pictures!
very cool! or should I say very cold! there are actually eight pages worth of pictures, but I'll link to the ones that show Chellis, and if you want to go through the rest of them, here's the main link:

whew!! Chellis is wearing the light-blue ski pants; #233 is a good one to see what he looks like. in some of the pics he's a bit obscured, or facing away, but I thought they were good ones to show some environment. take a look at the thumbnail pages, and check out some of the scenery! although it was a cold day, it was beautiful. he said the view from the top was really something else. that's my boy!

they'll be posting a movie that they made, that shows some highlights; when that gets posted, I'll let you know. Chellis worked on that, while some other kids did a Powerpoint presentation for the show this afternoon. pretty fun, and interesting stuff.

edit: the movie is up now, too!

by the way, the storm that you heard about on the East Coast didn't make it up here at all, so no big snow for us...

Chellis'

weekend...
here's a link to what Chellis is doing this weekend:

Snow Studies at GIV

Chellis is doing the Snow Studies strand. (scroll down) very cool. hope he's staying warm!!

Winter Olympics

yippee, CBC!
thank goodness for cable!

CBC broadcast schedule

now to find when curling is on...
Chellis is at a "Snow Studies" weekend, climbing mountains over near Stowe and setting off avalanches and fun things like that, so it's just Emerson and Lincoln and me, and we're staying in from the cold. (-5° right now. brr!) they have a basketball game this evening, and we need to go shoe shopping, so we'll get out sometime today...
have a great weekend.

it really

begins...
I received the divorce papers from Marnie's attorney in the mail today.

driving

more fun!
a slow week, but the big news is that Chellis drove from the house to town yesterday! I picked the boys up after school for the weekend, and asked Chellis if he wanted to drive into town, and after a bit of hesitation, he said, "sure". he did a great job, and I think my knuckles went white only once... ;) he's not quite ready for heavy traffic yet, but it won't be long. we did meet a couple of cars on the way in, so bit by bit, he's getting there. his response when we got to town was, "that was fun".

Emerson and Lincoln have a basketball game this afternoon, and then a boy/girl birthday party (whee!) this evening. growing up fast...

have a good weekend.

the most fun

I've had in days...
watch this: Tunak Tunak Tun
too much fun! can't sit still when he's dancing. might have to see about getting that album. something new for in the car...
you know, you just have to love the internet.
