my best friend, Matt, died today of a heart aneurysm. he was 36.

me and matt

I've had a couple of best friends over the last 15 years or so, and yesterday, Matt, the most recent of them, died suddenly. he was 36 years old.
he suffered an aortic aneurysm. he leaves behind his wife, and two kids, ages 12 and 10.
he was one of the most gifted and hard-working musicians I knew, and I respected him as much as anyone. probably more than anyone. we taught together for five years, and the quality of his groups drove me to make mine better.
he was my twin from a different mother. the fact that he was 6'10", and nine years my junior never entered into it.
I will miss you terribly, man.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

seventeen today!!! yay!

he's great. and I'm a proud dad.
