mesonoxian plans

amongst other things...
so, happy new year! I was planning/thinking about going into Montpelier for the First Night festivities, but it has snowed quite a bit here, so I think I'll stay at home and do nothing, much like I've done this vacation... hopefully, weather and all things will cooperate with whatever it is you hope to do!

I have been surfing the net most of the day, and here's an article that I found interesting, though much of it is over-my-head... Ties Up in Knots
I have been interested in topology for quite a while, perhaps because I like coffee and donuts. :¬ )

I talked with my Mom today (hi, Mother!), and she gently suggested I update my calendar page so that all of you will know what I'm doing. well, maybe I'll do that once I get all my calendars in one spot... needless to say, I'm pretty busy these next few months (what's new?) with Annie auditions at school, tenor solos with the VSO in Beethoven's Missa Solemnis at the end of January, Voices movie stuff on-going, a whole mess of Counterpoint gigs in March, and I'm sure I'm forgetting at least a couple of other things. there's church, normal school stuff/concerts, etc., and whatever other things will pop up along the way. whew.

I think I'll go back to doing nothing for today...

oh, and mesonoxian? go look it up: Worthless Word for the Day

happy new year!

Merry Christmas

everyone!
I hope that you have a wonderful holiday, and may we all have peace in the new year.

snowy

and blowy...
well, we're getting a pretty good blast here, so much that church was canceled this morning. now to figure out if I can make it to Warren for the Counterpoint/VSO concert this afternoon... several of the group (including Bob) have already decided they're not coming, so I will be conducting, if I can make it, but it's not looking good. the brass players are already in Warren, and since the audience is primarily local for this one, the VSO decided to go ahead with the concert, but those of us that said we would try to make it will need to make our decision by noon today. we've already gotten about three inches of snow here, and it is coming down very heavily at the moment. it's supposed to change over to mixed snow/sleet in early afternoon, and then back to snow by late afternoon, which sounds so inviting.... ah well, concert season in Vermont.

it is beautiful here, however, and we've gotten more snow than I've seen for several Decembers. I'll try to take some pictures today.

I'm knee (thigh? waist? che.., no. NECK) high in Voices work right now, trying to get the songs ready to re-record by Friday. I thought I had until January, but the schedule changed. whee. there's also one more school concert, and since this is the band concert, I'll get to just sit and listen, which will be nice. my chorus concert was a great success, and I'm very pleased. now we're starting to prepare to do Annie in April, and we'll hold auditions when we get back in January. it will be fun, and I know we'll have a great show. we have a lot of talent and the hard part will be deciding who gets what part! I will be able to have understudies for the understudies!

I'm also getting very excited about having the boys back for Christmas. I haven't seen Emerson and Lincoln since August (other than a few video chats) and I hope that I recognize them! speaking of the boys, I got report cards/Iowa Basics scores for all three, and they're doing great! Chellis is on the High Honors roll, with an A average, and both Lincoln and Emer qualify for a gifted program that the University offers. pretty cool. I'm a proud dad.

ok, time for another cup of coffee!

sorry about the widescreen, Kathy!

a brief outage

ah well...
sorry all you fans that read me daily, but I had a brief outage yesterday. turns out my domain name expired, and I hadn't been notified because I had given them (several years ago) an email address that was no longer valid. I re-upped for five years this time, so I should be good for awhile.

last night's Counterpoint concert went very well, in a delightful little Episcopal church in Norwich, Vermont. a terrific acoustic, and a very good audience(though driving back in the snow squalls wasn't so fun...). tonight we're in St. Johnsbury, and VPR/NPR will be there to record us for our annual "Christmas in Vermont" broadcast. tomorrow is St. Michael's and they'll record that one, too. my school concert is Wednesday, and I think Chellis has his on Tuesday. whee!
